“Sure, we don’t know exactly what Bitcoins are, or how they work, but that shouldn’t come between you and some finger lickin’ good chicken,” the company said in a tweet.

Sadly, you can not avail the offer by walking into nearby KFC store in Canada and pay with bitcoin. The limited-time “The Bitcoin Bucket” offer is only available from KFC Canada website on home delivery.

“Welcome to 2018, Canada” the page added. “Despite the ups and downs of Bitcoin, the Colonel’s Original Recipe is as good as always. So, trade your Bitcoins for buckets and invest in something finger lickin’ good.”

If you pay online, it will cost you C$20 ($16.05) worth of bitcoins and extra shipping charge. At the press time, it would cost you 0.001402 BTC approx.

The chicken bucket includes ten original recipe tenders, waffle fries, a medium side gravy and two dips.

KFC Canada appears to have taken advantage of a good time when the whole world is chirping about Crypto, Crypto and Crypto. Even they promise a free bucket of chicken to a pseudonym Bitcoin founder, Satoshi Nakamoto on a special condition:

User’s Response to the Bucket Offer

The chicken bucket offer derived a mix response on social media. “Goin’ to grab a bucket just because of this,” one tweeted. Someone asked, “Why would anyone want to pay $40 for $20 worth of chicken?” It is a clear indication of higher fees in bitcoin transactions.

KFC has wisely blown their publicity bandwagon surrounding bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. KFC posted many tweets with hashtag #BitcoinBucket:

  • FIAT is backed by gold, but Bitcoin is backed by fried chicken.
  • Another big rise in #Bitcoin. Hodl for the dip.
  • Not a bull market, this here is a chicken one.
  • Buy Original Recipe. Avoid alt-recipes.
  • Give us your Bitcoins. Then tell us how to spend a Bitcoin.
  • Hodl onto your buckets! Bitcoin just went up a whopping 0.0000037.
  • Bitcoin on the rise since we went live. You’re welcome
  • Was Satoshi the Colonel all along?

Bitcoin for Food: a wise decision?

Currently, bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency KFC Canada is accepting. In another post on Twitter, the food chain indicated a possibility to accept the other cryptocurrencies, with a hint of a possible “Litecoin Bucket”:

In 2010, Hungarian truck driver, Laszlo Hanyecz spent 10,000 bitcoins to buy just two pizzas; it would be worth $141.5 million at the time of writing.

Paying bitcoins for fried chicken could be a massive regret, as the bitcoin you expend for a chicken bucket worth $20 could be worth several times more in the near future.
