The online gaming sensation Minecraft has decided to make bitcoin a part of its in-game currencies.
The bitcoin community took the news as a major step forward for cryptocurrencies as using bitcoin in the game will allow kids to become familiar with using the digital currency in the real world.
PlayMC, a Minecraft server, has decided to adopt bitcoin as its in-game currency. The currency is labeled “bit” and represents a satoshi, or a 100,000,000th of a bitcoin. PlayMC’s Minecraft is specifically geared toward children, and the bitcoin currency allows the game to reward them in a seemingly larger way. Once earned, a user can use their bits to purchase things like classes or additional game content.

The company says its bitcoin currency system has been designed to teach kids about using digital currencies and managing their own money. Players can earn bits in different ways, from winning a battle against another user to reporting bugs to PlayMC. The best part is that the system allows children to buy things without using a credit card, something most other games require.
